Born in Lisbon – Portugal, in 1973, has an Architecture Degree by Faculdade Arquitectura Universidade Técnica Lisboa in 1996.
Collaboration with van Sambeek & van Veen, Amsterdam, Holland, between years 1997 and 2000 and with Broadway Malyan, Portugal, from 2000 until 2004. In 2004 establishes in partnership the acarquitectos office.
In 2008, proceeds individually under the name João Tiago Aguiar, arquitectos. The office, located in the city centre of Lisbon, is mainly focused on the discipline of Architecture, counting already with many built and ongoing projects. Designing furniture and lighting are also part of the design process of the office.
Several lectures have been given and various projects have been published in different national and international architecture magazines, architecture blogs and books. Some awards have been won, including twice the “Surface Design Awards” in the UK and the RENOV 2015 – architectural renewal award of Câmara Municipal de Oeiras, and has been numerous times finalist of the “ArchDaily” awards in different categories. In 2020, figures among the “Best of 2020” of the Archello website and, one year later, the awards SIL 2021 where is distinguished for the best real estate and housing development with the Avencas Ocean View Residences project and also Construir 2021 for the best rehabilitation with Maison Eduardo Coelho. The Golden Trezzini awarded with an honorable mention for the category Best Implemented Project of Private Residence. Again, in 2022, with Avencas Ocean View project wins the Prémio Nacional do Imobiliário and Prémio SIL for Maison Eduardo Coelho as the best real estate housing development.
The work covers many construction sectors, from housing to restaurants, services, and furniture. During the last few years, the main projects, regarding the housing field, have ranged from the renovation of apartments to the extension and house refurbishment, the extension and renovation of collective housing buildings and the construction of houses and buildings from scratch.
Ordem dos Arquitectos launched an invitation to be part of the jury panel for the cost-controlled housing competition in Almada and the international competition “The Tiny House” 2021, a Volume Zero – Architecture and Design initiative.
Regarding the hotel and restaurant industries, there are manyfold projects associated with renowned brands, including the transformation of existing spaces into new distinct places. The starting point consists of a careful and strict approach to the pre-existing situation which leads to the presentation, execution, and monitoring of solutions more suitable to each client. Working with multidisciplinary teams, from engineering, decoration, to landscaping and fine arts, allows to offer an enriched and completed work.
